Activities for Holiday Programs

In a technology filled world it is easy for children to be disconnected from nature. Our holiday program activities have been carefully designed to raise children’s awareness of their local wildlife and the natural environment.

They are a perfect way for children to develop a connection, appreciation and enjoyment of the wonder of wildlife and nature. Participants will also create a practical item to take home and start making a difference to the wildlife in their area.

Our program is ideal for holiday programs and camps, before and after school care, markets, libraries, community events and anyone wanting to provide meaningful, nature inspired activities that will benefit, attract and support wildlife.

Because holidays, and time spent out of the classroom, should be fun and allow children to learn through creative play, our activities;

  • are structured for children to build nature awareness

  • Provide opportunities to experiment, play and create

  • Connect children to wildlife and nature

  • Provide meaningful, practical experiences with take home creations that will make a difference to the wildlife sharing their neighborhood

  • Generate positive and empowering experiences and long lasting memories.

  • We use recycled and up-cycled, natural materials wherever possible to challenge and inspire children to be creative while enjoying a tactile experience.

Choose from three different hands-on activities:

    1. Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation

Does that little bird need help? What can I do about the injured possum on the road? Children often have a natural empathy and affinity for wildlife. It is instinctive to want to help but we often don’t know how, or whether the animal even needs help.

This activity empowers children to help wildlife through direct rescue or calling for help. They will be able to identify rescue situations and know the appropriate action to take.

    All participants:

  • plan and formulate strategies for rescue scenarios

  • participate in mock rescues using real equipment

  • take home a car rescue kit they have assembled.

  • Not only great fun, involving imaginative role play, this activity really will make a difference while inspiring and empowering children to connect with and help wildlife.

We provide all items for the take home rescue kit as well as the equipment and props needed to enact different rescue scenarios.

    2. Water for Wildlife

Children will create their own unique water dish to take home and include in their garden! This hands-on activity is a fun way to instantly start helping our wildlife. Every year heat affected wildlife are rescued from our backyards and come into care. In many instances, these rescues could easily be avoided by simply providing an appropriate water dish.

    All participants:

  • discover where best to place water dishes for different species

  • create a dish that is safe for both wildlife and insects

  • have a wildlife water dish to take home for their garden.

  • Included in this program are related activities that are fun while providing children the opportunity to learn through investigation and play.

    3. Native Bees or Skinks and Insects – Make them a ‘Home’

Children’s natural curiosity and wonder can be triggered by the amazing world of insects and lizards and these animals are critical to the food chain and biodiversity.

In this hands-on activity children will explore the secret world of insects through participation in interactive activities. They will also learn through play how and why insects and lizards are important for other wildlife.

    All participants:

  • Search for and discover * insects and lizards in interactive scenarios

  • Design and construct an insect home

  • have an insect and lizard home to take home for their garden.

  • Not only great fun, involving imaginative play, this activity really will make a difference for wildlife while inspiring and empowering children to connect with the fascinating world of insects and lizards.

We provide all items needed to create an insect home and for the interactive activities.

    * no live animals are used, we use replica insects and lizards.
